110 years strong

Naturally we visited the motor show AutoRAI in Amsterdam that opened its doors yesterday. The first car show was held in 1899 and ever since the show has been held bi-annually, with the exception of the war years. However, this year there’s a whole new concept. Automobiles are not grouped by make, but divided over several themes: Family & Travel, Convertibles, Luxury and Sports Cars, etc. Whether this innovative idea really works, we don’t know, as a number of the larger brands chose to participate. Luckily for us there was a whole pavilion dedicated to Veteran & Vintage cars where this stunning 1929 Vauxhall Hurlingham 20/60 held us captive for a long time. Here we also met our jury member Frans Vrijaldenhoven, who went to the AutoRAI for the first time in 1938 and hasn’t missed the show since. Surely this must be some sort of record!
