A couple of days ago I saw a photo of this car in the magazine and it reminded me to take a look again at the February, 1935, issue of Motor Sport. The article, entitled 1908 "Grand Prix" Itala, written by Kent Karslake, explains where the car was found and who found it.
The photo of the car leaving the works at F. G. Smith (Motors) Ltd. shows J. S. Pole in the driver's seat. I spoke to Sam Clutton about this many years ago at a V.S.C.C. meeting at Silverstone when he told me that he had bought the car from my grandfather in east London. I imagine Pole returned the car in 1936 and it was sold again to a young student named Sam Clutton. F.G. Smith and works manager George Watson can be seen in the background of the photo.
The two other photos show Itala cars at scrutineering.
Some more history about this car in all its forms can be found in the book "Brooklands Giants" by Bill Boddy.
