When saying 'Imp' most of you will think of pre-war Riley or post-war Hillman. Not so with Leslie Dreist. Since she saw an Imp cyclecar in the ACD Museum in Auburn at the age of 8 (!) she has dreamed of owning one. She writes: "I already had a 1924 Auto Red Bug at the time and really liked cyclecar type vehicles. My dad looked for an IMP to no avail and then I took over the search as an adult - 31 years later, I have one.
We pulled this car out of a basement in Virginia - I am the third owner, the previous owner had it for 40 years and the original owner was a wealthy plantation owner in Virginia. The Burwell family that owned the car originally was a well-known family with deep Virginia roots - after the American Civil War, General Lee, who was a friend of the family, stayed at the Burwell family home. The person I bought the IMP from acquired it directly from the Burwell family. The IMP is mostly complete: the wheels are there, though not on the car, and there are other parts that came with it. However, I am missing the motor which is a 2cyl. vertical made by Rochester Motors Co. in Rochester, New York. Maybe you know someone who has a Rochester motor of 1913/14 vintage, or something similar, they would like to sell? "
We like to help Leslie in this matter, we only want to plee - that although the car will need a drop of paint in places - that she will keep as much as possible in tact the heavily patinated orginal Imp logo on the bonnet!
