The MG L-type Magna Mystery (UPDATE VIII: F-type with Stiles body)

Carrick Watson sends two very nice B&W shots. One showing "Mum & Dad, doing a bit of posing with what looks like an L type MG Magna to me, c.1932"
Editor: we like to believe the L-type Magna bit, but we have never seen this sloping bodywork....er so much nicer than the boxy standard item (now probably we get mugged by a herd of MG connoisseurs in a quiet alley, but alas that's life).

Another photo is showing Carrick's son Colin, also posing, but now with Carrick's own 1934 L type Magna 4 seater around 1960's

Update III by editor: Hats off for Joop's memory, see The Charmer on Flickr!

The car MG1771 featured in the Charmer belong to my father in the late 50s. He restored it having been bomb damaged during the war, we would love to Know if the car still exists.

Hello

|the MG above, FS 3305 is a Stiles bodied F Type. The car would have been sold as a chassis to Stiles who at that time were the Alfa Romeo importers. There are about 10 left and a few replicas.

I would appreciate it if anything more is known of this car: who are the occupants, when was the photo taken and where etc.

Many thanks

Hello Joop,
Out of interest, I owned MG F Type Magna Reg 1771 when served as an airman at RAF Wattisham in 1962-67. It was quite a machine, with a small 1100 cc six cyl engine, three SU carbs, a frightening top speed and almost non existant brakes. I sold the car to Graham Darn, a fellow airman who also owned a rather similar L Type.

I have a large black and white photograph of an M.G. which looks to be taken in the 1960's going by the frame. The wording 'Astra 11' is painted on the bonnet side. Unfortunately the number plate is hidden by the frame but the numbers start with '75'. Maybe someone can identify it.

The important thing to ask: where is that particular F/L type with Styles body with licenceplate MG 1771 or 771? Someone with a love for prewar MG's must know where it went after making the TV serie in 1986/1987? I mean such a important and rare car should normally not go lost. Or maybe Nigel Havers took it as payment for his TV work to his home? Afterall Ralph (Rafe) Ernest Gorse was a conman so he could have just nicked it and drove into the sunset :-)

Thanks for the compliment regarding my memory from times long gone. By the way next year it will be 25 years ago 'The Charmer' was on TV (1986) so a request to BBC or Channel Four (is there any of you out there?) Re-run this lovely episodes with Nigel Havers, please!

transl. "I took the liberty to post the photo at the forum of the Triple M Register. And they confirm: "The car pictured in the larger picture is an F type with the very attractive Styles body. The Registration looks like FS3305 which does not appear in the printed 2010 Triple-M Register."
Maurice Dioncre continues: Next week I will pick up the 1934 MG PA with compressor, which I bought via Prewarcar."

Halfway the 90's there was english sitcom 'The Charmer' on dutch TV and the main role was a man that drove the same car in light and dark blue. I always wanted to see a re-run of this series but never saw it back. I am 99% sure filmcrew used the same L-type MG with that non-original unusual body, can anyone from GB confirm my story about this serie?
