 ACROSS AUSTRALIA IN A FORD by Francis Birtles: 3,500 Miles across Australia in a FORD car from the Gulf of Carpentaria via Sydney to Port Phillip Bay.  An epic journey in a Model T Ford from August to September 1913.  Attractive two-colour flush cut pictorial card covers and 62 pages profusely illustrated with black and white photos.  An exceedingly rare early Australian epic motoring travel book, one for the Ford Model T enthusiast, or motoring book collector.  Originally published around 1913 in five versions for distribution in Australia & New Zealand. Each version featuring a FORD dealer's details on front cover banner and on the flyleaf   Francis Birtles was a famous pioneer cross country cyclist and motorist (Brush, Model T Ford, Talbot & Bean) with many cross country epic journeys to his credit, including driving overland from London to Australia.  This is an excellent facsimile copy, with only minor storage marks and shelf wear, one of a handful that have recently been discovered.  Originals are incredibly rare with only a small number known to exist.
