Bugatti T35 B

From its birth in 1924 to the present day, the Bugatti type 35, in all its guises, has remained one of the world’s most desirable motorcars. Beautifully proportioned, balanced and powerful to drive, its numerous successes in road and track events the world over, are testament to the design and engineering prowess of Ettore Bugatti and his eponymous company. The 35 was constantly improved, from its early 2 litre un-supercharged specification, eventually reaching a pinnacle in the Type 35B, with its 2. 3 litre straight eight supercharged-engine, that for a period, was virtually unbeatable in competition.

The opportunity to own one of the most lauded of all Grand-Prix cars, the Bugatti Type 35B, has long been the aim of many an enthusiast. Whilst some have been lucky enough to find and own completely original cars, for many a year, it has been that case, that impecunious fans of such cars have assembled collections of original and replacement parts and with desire, enthusiasm, a dash of expert help and of course, financial commitment, ended up with the Bugatti of their dreams!

Offered for sale here, is one such Type 35B. Originally built up from parts in 1989, this is the first time since its exacting build, that it has been available for sale.

Built from many original parts, and first assembled by Tomkyns Ltd, after a somewhat false start, things came together when the project moved away from this company, with bills on file from all the major U. K Bugatti specialists, including Ivan Dutton, Gentry Restorations, Arthur Archer, Brineton Engineering and more recent work with French specialists NOVO.

Conforming to the Bugatti Owners Club exacting specification and inspected by them in 1995, the car was then issued its BC chassis number 56. Later that year it was inspected by the DVLA and issued the registration SV 5723 with a declared manufacture of 1928.

The owner’s commitment, has resulted in a fantastic road and racing Bugatti, with delightful detail, this 35B is one of the most useable and enjoyable Bugatti’s that I have driven. Flexible, torquey and with a set-up as adept to fast road use and touring, as it is to track use.

Fastidiously maintained, recent works have included an engine rebuild with the renowned French specialist Fred & Jean Novo, whose work is known the world over, having specialised in these cars for generations.

Used regularly for Bugatti club events and touring and a somewhat regretful sale, this ultimate, vintage road and race Bugatti, is now ready for its second owner. A fantastic addition to any collection and suitable for a wide range of events, from VSCC, to of course, this year’s 100-Year celebrations of the Type 35, what better way to celebrate than ownership of this car!
