60 years after the hunt

Finland, November 1927. A group of men return from a hunting trip in their 1922 Fiat 501. Rain turns to sleet and then to severe snow. The ferry taking them across the lake gets caught in a heavy crosswind. The ropes that tie the Fiat to the deck break and the car sinks to the bottom of the lake. End of story…
No, local people remembered the drowned Fiat and in 1986 Antero Flander decided to find the exact location of the car. With the help of eyewitnesses he located a possible resting place and after some exploring he found the car, resting fifteen meters deep and covered in fishing nets. When it was lifted from the lake it looked remarkably well preserved (click!). Even rabbit's bones from the hunting trip were found beneath the back seat. However, all the metal body panels were badly rusted and the engine had melted into one rusty lump. All wooden parts of the body had to be remade (click!). A new engine was found, but many parts are still missing to complete the restoration. For example: relays, interior upholstery, seat upholstery, top frame and cloth, windscreen posts and a clock. Can you help Antero to track down these missing parts? Any information will be forwarded. Contact us (RB) (Story by Raul Valkila; all photos by Antero Flander ).

Antero has restored or made new most of this car's body panels and I've seen some pictures of them together. I am confident in that this Fiat will still see the Finnish roads in the future. Antero has also kindly loaned me his original wooden parts of the Torpedo coachwork, which I intend to copy as patterns and later make a new wood frame for my 1925 501 and perhaps spares for others too.
