And so it should for the one and only pre-war 'Monoposto’ made by Aston Martin. In 1938 they built a racing car to test a new engine. A rudimentary body was fitted and the Monoposto was tested at Brooklands, but for reasons unknown it never raced in anger. After the war it was sold to Gordon Gartside, who fitted a two-seater body and raced it until 1953. After that the Aston vanished, only to reappear in terrible condition from a Sheffield lock-up in the mid-1980s. Andy 'Bertelli'Bell brought it mechanically back in its original form and fitted a Monoposto body in period Brooklands style, although not exactly the same as the ‘rough body’ fitted by the works. This Aston Martin is a extremely quick (we've seen it roaring round Silverstone). If it handles as exciting as it looks and sounds, we can't tell you. Yet there's an easy way to find out. Drop in at Ecurie Bertelli and ask Andy for the keys... But don't think you have all the time in the world, the current rate of the pound makes prewar Aston's faster than ever before! (click).
