The 1935 Twelfth Series represented one of Packard's strongest model lineups. The Standard Eight occupied the sweet spot in the range, offering nearly all the refinement and imposing presence of the flagship Super Eight on a slightly shorter wheelbase. Its smooth 320-cubic-inch L-head inline-eight produced 130 horsepower and delivered the quiet, effortless performance that Packard owners expected. The combination proved highly successful, with the Standard Eight outselling the Super Eight by nearly three to one.

Among the most desirable and elegant bodies available on the Standard Eight chassis was the graceful Convertible Victoria, with its long hood, flowing fenders, low folding top, and sporting profile.
