Walter Hay's 140th birthday (UPDATE: + tractor spare)

The Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum in Fairbanks, Alaska recently held a reception to honor the 140th birthday of Walter Hay. Walter Hay was the inventor, engineer and builder of the 1898 Hay Motor Car, which incidentally was the subject of our quiz # 267. Sixteen of Walter's decendants from Connecticut, South Carolina and California had been invited for the festivities, including one of Walter's granddaughters. Also present was Sean Brayton from Red Star Autoworks, Rhode Island who restored the Hay. Sean helped in getting the car ready for a demonstration run, although sadly a broken gear in the drive train prevented a drive.

The spare tyre in the background is a snow 'tyre' for an early Fordson tractor.
