A Catalonian Christmas Greeting

I have learned not to say Ceci lives in Spain, because she lives in Catalonia and Catalonians fiercely value their independence. Luckily, she loves England and all things English and occasionally visits these shores to attend English courses to improve her skills as an English teacher. Ceci wanted to do some Christmas shopping, so I drove her to Waddesdon Manor in my Bullnose Morris. The Buckinghamshire Manor was built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French château between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild but is now owned by The National Trust which always has a well-stocked shop. The car park attendant melted at Ceci’s pleas to allow us to drive right up to the door and I promised not to drop any oil on the gravel drive.

It had rained while we were shopping so I bought some mince pies to warm us for the journey home – I drove and Ceci was navigator. Happy Christmas !

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is, I believe, the correct title. But I thought that to be a bit long and cumbersome, particularly for Fransisco!

Just to be clear, Northern Ireland is part of 'The United Kingdom' not Great Britain. The latter is Wales, Scotland and England together.

A partnership which serves everybody well, and I hope will continue, withstanding Mel Gibson's best efforts with 'Braveheart', to rile up anti-English sentiment.

Joris. I recently commented on the number of Robin Batchelor articles appearing on this site. However, I am increasingly fascinated by the man himself. He has a Catholic taste in cars I enjoy his witty raconteur's stories. And now we discover his irrestible attractiveness to women. Is there nothing Robin Batchelor cannot do? Perhaps in his next article he could share the secret of his success?
Sorry to say this, but Ceci lives in Spain, as Catalonia is a part of Spain, exactly as Scotland is still part of England... Sorry but for people like me - from Spain- this kind of comments are really hurtful
Fransisco, Scotland is NOT part of England, it is part of Great Britain , as are Wales and Northern Ireland, and strangely enough so is England!

Robin, forget about the territorial disputes, does Ceci know about Rachel? (Nov14). Is it you or the car that attracts the women?

Not half as hurtful as you saying "Scotland is part of England " !!

I have heard that all my life, but it still rankles.

Francisco, I apologise for my clumsy comment about Catalonia. I confess I was surprised when Ceci spoke with passion about her views on it - but they are obviously not shared by everybody. I am grateful to learn from you, and I look forward to meeting you when I next visit Spain to visit my daughter - and we can talk about OLD CARS!
