A display of family silver

After celebrating its centenary last July, Audi finds itself with yet another celebration: 75 years of the Silver Arrow. From 1934 until the outbreak of WW II, almost all racing events were won by either Auto Union or Mercedes-Benz. Today Mercedes-Benz still owns most of its original racing cars, the Silver Arrows built by Auto Union have almost all been lost. They had been put away in a mine building near Zwickau, which was to become the Soviet zone after the war and all trace of them was soon lost. A few of the cars were later recovered, but others had to be rebuilt by consulting old photographs and drawings. From December 2, 2009 until March 31, 2010, three Silver Arrows from Mercedes and seven from Audi will be on show at the Audi Forum in Ingolstadt. For more info see the full press release by Audi.
