Summer’s over so it’s time to get your coat out once again. This lady shows us the way to do it, with fashionable hat, gloves and pumps as finishing touches. The picture is just one from a shoot of a fashion show organized by fur dealer Nico Nagtegaal of Rotterdam in September 1961.
Nagtegaal jumped at the opportunity of taking his models to the International Concours Hipique, which happened to be taking place nearby in Rotterdam. Other pictures show his girls between the horses and jockeys; this is the only one with cars, which must have been taken at the visitor’s parking.
It seems an unusual choice to use this particular car, an Austin Seven of 1929 vintage. Perhaps he was attracted to its air of antiquity, or it might even have been the model’s own car. We thought we’d see if the registration AX-14-02 is still in use today and were pleasantly surprised to find that the Seven is still pottering along on Dutch roads, or is at least in a position to do so, having most recently changed hands in 2020.
