A Jolly Day Out

These men (we didn’t spot a single woman in the group) are the management and personnel of the American Petrol Company, that had its offices in Antwerp, Belgium. The "American Petroleum Company" (APC) was formed in 1891 by bringing together several companies that imported and/or sold petroleum in Belgium and Holland. Two offices were created in both Rotterdam and Antwerp. The shares of APC were partly owned by the American Standard Oil Company but they didn’t have a majority. But guess where the men were going? To the 1920 Summer Olympics of course, also held in Antwerp. (photo courtesy Esso Archives / Bas de Voogd)
