A cool new year: 2011 (upd. Panhard-Levassor of Henry Deutsch de la Meurthe

Welcome in 2011. A year that will make the difference. It is with pleasure that we will bring you  far out cars. Never heard of makes. New old places on the web. Unsolvable quizes. As always your contributions are what this place is about. This webmagazine is for you and by you. So please feel welcome as ever to show your car, and to share stories, unidentified photos, unidentified engines & chassis. And whatever else that is prewar and pretty.

The brilliant photo of this well clad winter driver came to us from Leo McAllam and we understand it probably was shot some 110 years ago. About 100 years more than PreWarCar which will have its 10 years birthday next July. We'll keep you posted on plans that we are developing.

UPDATE by Leo McAllam: When I sent the photograph of the gentleman wrapped up in his splendid fur coat for winter motoring I knew that the car was a Panhard-Levassor of around 1900, but I did not know if he was the owner or the chauffeur.
I now know that the car is one of those owned by Henry Deutsch de la Meurthe, best known as an oil magnate, founder of the Aéro Club de France in 1898, philanthropist, and presenter of a number of substantial cash prizes for aviation activities including Santos-Dumont's rounding of the Eiffel Tower in his dirigible in 1901 and with his friend Ernest Archdeacon the prize won by Henry Farman for the first 1 kilomètre flight in an aeroplane in 1908.
His activities are well-cover on the expected websites, but his motoring is not mentioned at all.
This picture, by the way, shows the chauffeur, not Henry Deutsch.
Best wishes for 2011 - Leo
