A marl quarry question

This photograph reached us via-via, questioning what the car seen here could possibly be. We have our ideas pointing towards France but would like to let you do the more precise focusing. We may be totally wrong – in fact, it wouldn’t be the first time. The lines are pretty straightforward and maybe not so easily recognizable. But perhaps there are a few giveaways  – the radiator, the unusual placing of the spare, the badge on the side of the bonnet?

What we do know is that the car was driven by a private chauffeur named Pierre Persoon somewhere between 1915 and 1920 in the very south-east of The Netherlands, close to the Belgian border. The picture was taken in the valley of the river Geul, known for its marl quarries - marl is what you also see in the background. Now – who recognizes this grand tourer?

Words by the editor. Picture Paul Persoon.

Well spotted Sir.
I was confused by the apparent left hand drive which did not seem to fit with anything!

In my memory I had identified this car already two years ago, but I'm getting older so I can't be sure about many things … I am though about this photo. The car is a ca 1914 Germain, very recognizable by its roundish radiator and the large panels in the bonnet. I do not see a badge on the side bonnet, but a hand grip. Also this grip is very 'Germain', as the characteristic bow-like shape of it didn't change from at least 1907. So you could say that the grip is a real Germain-feature too. Finally, all Germains at the time of this photo (until at least 1921) had right hand drive steering, so I must assume that the photo has to be mirrored to obtain the true picture.
