A massive motor home Mystery (update: Thornycroft?)

Now that temperatures start to rise a little again we start thinking about spectacular motoring weekends. Chris Jones sends this photo. "This motor home was one of many vehicles owned by my Great Uncle Sid. Here he is at Arley (near Kidderminster) in about 1929 with various members of my family. My father is the baby (just visible) in possibly a great aunts arms. This makes even a Winnebago look modest! I wanted to share this photo, as it seems to always raise a few smiles when people see it."

Editor: now of course the picture makes us curious to learn more about this more than average motorhome. Let's start to find out  what car - or better truck - was in volved. The second small photo below is showing enough of the nose of the car to help with identifying.

I agree on the chassis being a Thornycroft. If you go to this link, and zoom on the page, you'll see an article on what I think is this actual vehicle;

The radiator looks Thornycroft to me, and they made a 6 x 4 model from 1926 called the Tartar.
