A May Meet plus Motor Mystery. (UPDATE V: Singer 10 !)

Two weeks ago Martin Shelley was attending and helping a VMCC vintage test day where twenty old bikes with lever throttles and hand gear changes were taken along to the Grampian Transport Museum at Alford near Aberdeen in Scotland so a bunch of would-be vintagents could become familiatised with the intricacies of riding such machines. Martin took a fine 1920 16H Norton just like the ones which finished 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 13th and 14th in the 1920 Senior TT. 11th place was also taken by a Norton but a belt driven one not a chain drive one, the last time a belt driven bike got anywhere in the TT!

At the same occasion a local enthusiasts produced a small sepia picture of a twenties car, which an elderly lady had brought to the museum for identification. It was actually torn in two. Martin  scanned and repaired it before sending (bravo!) and is hoping that our knowledgable readers will comment. Martin suspects the automobile to be a Gwynne or a Rhode (?), but others possibly can tell more.

Definitely not a Seabrook - the rad is too shouldered and filler is wrong shape.
(as compared to the one in my cellar)

I'm pretty certain it is a 1923 Singer 10 hp. You can see a gothic script 'S' on the spare wheel mounting cover. This model of the Singer had both doors on the near, "passenger" side as the hand brake lever was on the right as was the three speed and reverse gear lever. Quarter elliptic springing all round; brakes on rear wheels only. Singers changed to well-base rims for 1924, those in the picture are beaded-edge. Engine was ohv 1093cc unit with detachable head.

Is this picture printed backwards ? Or are they going the wrong way round the track ? Thanks...love your work.

Yes, I stand corrected and now believe the automobile is a 1925 Singer 10.

More likely a Singer or a Seabrook car looking at the height and shape of the radiator

My guess would be a 1927 - 1929 Gywnne Ten ( Ten being the horsepower) of the vehicle.
