Another decorative (hood) ornament we have not seen before. In the first instance, the wings reminded us a little bit of a Dragonfly or Damselfly. But if you look more closely you see eye spots on the wings – this leads us in the direction of a butterfly. The other thing we noticed is the headgear.
Leslie Nugent sent us the pictures of this friendly-looking piece of art. He has been told it is most likely to make a mould for a hood ornament. On the back, there is an inscription which reads M A (I ?) (L?). The last two(?) letters largely faded.
Is there someone who can help us with the identification of this mysterious flying (hood) ornament and maybe tell us more about it?
