A Rare Survivor? (UPDATE: see Special Saloon)

When we saw an Austin Seven Saloon in HVA’s auction catalogue we thought, hey, did we ever show you one of those? Yes, we did many years ago, so it’s time to highlight another one. These ‘boxes’ used to be so common on the roads, yet they have become quite rare nowadays. Of course there are plenty of Seven tourers or Seven based specials around, but saloons…? Maybe because they weren’t worth much to start with and expensive to restore, still they are lovely cars. Especially this maroon RL saloon, dating from December 1930. The RL saloon was introduced in March 1930, made until October 1931 and during that short period the body has been changed three times. This is the latest version that has the longer bonnet with louvres and the larger four-wheel brakes. It will be auctioned by Herefordshire Vintage Auctions on November 25th. Be sure to study carefully their elaborate catalogue in PDF, a long-long list of mouthwatering items. Starting with a fold flat sports screen up lot no. 519... a rolling chassis 1911 Napier project... Reading through all that one can agree with HVA: "A Sale for Enthusiasts run by Enthusiasts." Update: Today’s feature reminded Austin Harris of the Special Saloon that was raced by his father in the 80s. You can just about see the Shorrocks supercharger.
