Roadrider soon back on the Road

Some time ago Guy Muller from England send us some pictures of the 1938 Lanchester LA14-2 'Roadrider' DeLuxe Saloon he is restoring. Built by Daimler, and featuring fluid-flywheel drive and a pre-select gearbox, these high quality, 6-cylinder OHV cars are very rare, according to the Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club probably less than twenty roadworthy LA14-2's are known to have survived worldwide. When Guy purchased his Lancaster it had a superb -if somewhat dirty- original interior, with the exception of the roof-lining. He has fully restored the woodwork, cleaned and restored the original red leather seats and door trims and had new red Axminster carpets made (edged in red leather) and will shortly be having a new 'West of England Cloth' roof-lining fitted. Guy’s Lancaster has been off the road since 1967 but is slowly coming together now. With a little luck, she'll be on the road again soon!

No, but funnily enough, Guy Gibsons initials were GPG - Guy Paul Gibson...
And my cars registration number begins 'GPG'...Oh, and yes - I'm heavilly into WW2 RAF history as well!

Hi - Great to see this. I owned what I believe was an identical model 40 years ago which ran faultlessly for two or more years. There were some memorable trips in grand style taking turns with the driving and the remarkable preselector gears. I bought the car for £20 and sold it on for the same amount! Would love to see it if ever the chance arose.

Keep at it. Bryan Gibson
