A sub-compact Cadillac for the Prince of Siam

Recently we received several photos showing early pedal (or otherwise motorised child's cars). This one was sent in by Valery Patrakov: "Here is a photo of little Cadillac made for Siamese king's children in 1913."
Well first of all the location and bystanders don't give the impression that the photo was shot in Siam. Maybe in the US prior to delivery? Anyway it is thinkable this was the first car ever driven by GP-legend Prince Bira . Yet in that case he probably he was the second driver as his majesty Bira was born in 1914. So the first driver of this child's Caddy in that case was his older brother Prince Abhas (both princes depicted here). But maybe you are more interested  in the child's car itself. Looks like a perfect copy of it's big brother 1913 Cadillac 5 passenger Touring Sedan Convertible. Have any of these Cadillac child's cars survived, or was it a one-off by Cadillac to please the royal clientele?

Cadillac was the first car to use an Electric starter, and this baby Cadillac is driven by just one off this starters, queen Elizabeth gave a car to crownprince Olav in 1912,so i think 1912 must have been the year off Production.
it is based on a Cadillac modell 30.

A fuller story on the three Baby Cadillacs and how they were pin-pointed during the run up the 2003 centenary 'Bennett Run' is given on the UK Cadillac Website at the following link: www.cocgb.dircon.co.uk/newslett.htm#"The Royal Baby Cadillacs" .
Hope of interest.

Thanks Jaap. Yes and furthermore Prince Bira was not only a great racedriver but also a gifted pilot because in 1952 he flew the amazing 12.500 km distance from London to Bangkok with his own twin engined Miles Gemini aircraft. Back in those days engine technique was less reliable as nowadays, so he really risked his neck with that performance!

Ian Morton wrote an article about these miniature Cadillacs for the Daily Telegraph in 2003. As Anders said, there were three: the Prince Olaf one on the linked video, the one built for Siam (in 1916, not 1913) and a third which went to the Leland family. The Norwegian one still exists but the fate of the others is less clear.

Morton says that the Siamese one was definitely driven by Bira's cousin and manager Chula: I don't recall this being in any of his racing books but it may be mentioned in one of his much rarer autobiographies - Brought Up In England, The Twain Have Met or First Class Ticket.

The location is probably England, the year 1913. The car was driven by an electric motor.
This one was for another royal descendant anyway.

editor: if so for whom?

Is there no celebration to honour 100 years after the great Bira was born? Maybe the BBC could make a nice documentary about his racing days, I think The Prince deserves that at least!

As far as I know there was a series of these little cars, they were made for royal children.
There is one in the Nors Teknisk Museum in Oslo, made for Crown Prince Otto, it was made in 1907

There were three cars built.
The Norwegian crownprince Olav was also given one, as a gift from his grandmother the British Queen Alexandra. Built by J. Lockwood Co, comissioned by the London Cadillac dealer Frederick S. Bennett.

The third went to America, to the grandson of Cadillac's founder Henry Leland.
