A well-mannered sports car

The record tells us that this 1933 Type 16/66 AC with chassis n°: L30 was the fifth ‘Sportsman's Saloon' built in 1933. Later in 1938, the car was returned to the factory to be converted into a two-seat roadster. Something which was quite common these days but is nowadays difficult to imagine. Certainly, for AC this was routine as they offered cars built to order and according to the wishes of each customer. Which explains why only 70 cars were built and also the reason why it is difficult to find two identical cars.

This AC 16/66 has an elegant and original all-aluminium body. The brown leather upholstery is beautifully worn (as can be seen in the photographs) and the seats are very comfortable. The splendid 6-cylinder AC engine is fitted with three SU carburettors. Pleasant and comfortably cover for long distances. But also on the race track, the power and torque produced are great fun.

The car belonged for more than 40 years to a Spanish collector before it was sold to France 23 years ago. There it participated in numerous rallies and race events as the well-known Vintage Revival at Montlhéry, the Grand Prix de Pau Historique, the Circuit des Remparts in Angoulême and the Grand Prix de Vichy.

Would you like to get behind the wheel to discover what like to drive a Type 16-66? This 1933 AC is estimated between €80 000 and €120 000 and will be auctioned as lot n° 18 by Aguttes on Sunday the 30th of September 2018.
