75 years ago the Los Angeles-born, world famous dancer Isadora Duncan died in Nice, France when her scarf got entangled between the brake drum and spokes of the left rear wheel of the car she had entered just seconds before. Contrary to romantic belief, the car had no speed at all. The wheel needed only a few rotations to break Isadora's neck. It was around nine o'clock that chilly autumn evening when she was invited for a drive by the Italian racing driver Benoit Falchetto. She had met him only days earlier at the terrace of a small restaurant just outside Nice on the coast. He was driving a Bugatti. That's also why she gave him the nickname Buggatti (yes, with this typo) and that's probably also why the common belief is that the sportscar in which she died was a Bugatti. This was not the case. For 99,9% sure it was an Amilcar CGSs. Why, that's a story too long to tell here and today, but I am working on a booklet about the issue. No matter which car she died in, Isadora was a wonderful woman who laid the fundamanets of modern dance.(photo collection editor)
