Each year the Stanley Museum organizes an auction to help raise funds for the upkeep of the museum. Mostly these are Stanley Steamers that will be auctioned. However, this year a rather rare one is included. It’s a 1903 Grout Roadster 10 HP. Grouts were manufactured in Orange, Massachusetts and this one is thought to be one of ten roadsters produced. It was restored in 1974 with original running gear and body and was last steamed up and running in August 2009. A great feature of this car was the huge locomotive-style “cow catcher” front bumper. Although we can’t help but wonder what would really happen when a cow refuses to budge from the middle of the road.
