Ample trunk space. (UPDATE II: 1921 , driver Ben Harper!)

One of the most inspiring photos we have ever seen. Think of doing a coast to coast in a Hudson "V" Speedster. Ample trunk room at the back, a good tire sponsor, a true friend to change places now and then 3000 miles of adventurous road ahead. If this is the American Dream, we'll sign up. (collection John Wiser, US)
Click the pic for a good view and take note rushing by in the background just above the writing on the bonnet. On the next page you'll find the experts opinion on this purpose built Special.
UPDATE II: Alex Burr reports: "I have two photos of this mystery Hudson on my website. Captions on back of the photos states this car was a 1913 Hudson driven by Mr. Ben Harper of San Francisco, driven Frisco to NYC in 1921 - and back again." Hudsonly Alex Burr
UPDATEs came in from Peter Ransom, Mark Dawber and Kit Foster. Alll three carefully explaining us that the 'V' on the Hudson's bonnet is nothing more than the lower part of Hudson's triangular logo. Moreover Peter Ransom was happy to hear about D.J. Kava's theory on the 6-54 chassis of which he sent us a photo. (available on request)

This is my grandfather and I have more pictures of his cross country trip and his board track racing as well.

Does anyone know if his car is still around?
My dad told me he built this car on the 3rd. floor of a warehouse in a ship yard in san francisco and when it was done he lowered it down the elevator shaft to the ground floor by tying the front of the frame to the bottom of the elevator.
