An early SUV by Sears somewhere in Vermont..

What else is a SUV then a car meant to mix business and pleasure along normal and not so good roads? Just like the highwheelers that were built much longer than the outsider might tend to think. Until the beginning of the twenties these horseless suvs (a Sears here) were quite popular in remote areas. Until the Model T dealers found there way to these areas as well. When - like your editor - you have never been to Plymouth Vermont you may wonder where on earth it is.... Luckily the photographer also sent an impressive 1918 Locomobile shot against the background of an ancient light house. "Gotcha!" we thought. The wondrous web offers a great selection of Vermont lighthouses and we traced back ours within minutes. It's the Colchester Reef lighthouse where this tour passed by! More on the tour itself; then visit to the Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts. (photos W.F. Walling)
