What happened to the Peugeot Dar'l Mat found in Sussex? (upd. indeed the Dorothy Patten car)

UPDATE II:
Stuart Graham found this Darl'Mat in a garden in Sussex.  It had an extensive racing history.  I tried to swap it for my Morgan, the owner said no! When he died it passed on to the Eastbourne Motor Museum and when that owner died the last I heard of it was that it had gone to Germany but was in a terrible state.

editor: anybody who knows what came of this car?

UPDATE II: the car is now in Holland with Tony Paalman.
UPDATE photo sent by Arnoud van der Sman of a Darl'Mat at Brooklands , see also his remarks under Comments. Could it be the same car?

I received a telephone call in the 1980s from Peter Rose who then lived in Chichester who had found my number through the Peugeot owners' club. He was interested to hear that I was the son of the exclusive pre war concessionaire of Peugeot cars in the UK Tom Knowles 1889-1972. He told me that he was being pestered to sell the car- but it was intuitively obvious from his voice that the was an old man who harboured a strong sentimental attachment to the car. I had known of the car from my father who prepared it for races at his Eaton Mews garage as seen in the photos in the public domain. Far from using it regularly as the Californian auction house states in the recent sale documentation- my understanding is that Peter Rose didn't use it all! It was bought at an auction in London after if was crashed by the military man who had bought it from the Dorndorfs. Curious that such a car could go around Brooklands and Goodwood and Monthery unblemished yet come unstuck on the south circular... Mr Rose confided to me that it was in a shocking state. I was of an age that I would have loved to have owned it as well, but it clearly was not going to part company from the then owner while he was alive. I suppose we are all grateful of the great efforts made to recreate this splendid motor car. I notice that the documentation of it having been crashed seems to have mysteriously disappeared from the internet at the same time as numerous photographs of it in action have come to light. Authenticity is a variable concept along with price.

Reading Tom Knowles comment is interesting. I find there are questions than answers. I read another another site that Robert Arbuthnot had acquired the Peugeot from Dorothy in 1946. He was involved in a crash when another car coming in the opposite direction had a blowout crossed the central reservation (on the Watford bypass) and crashed into the Peugeot which was "destroyed" badly damaged and Arbuthnot was killed. Yet Dorothy & Rainer campaigned the car til 1948. Was it the case that Arbuthnot had completed the deal and he car reverted to Dorothy & Rainer for a rebuild. It probably stopped racing after this rebuild (around 1948) as it was a car in which someone had died?

The Peugeot Darl'mat is now in the US, where it is being restored at my shop, Cooper Technica, Inc., back to the way it was in 1938 when it was purchased by Dorothy Patten and her future husband Baron Rainer Dorndorf. We have found many photos of the car during the years when Dorothy Patten raced it, from 1938-1948. We also have a scrapbook she put together of her racing career with many unpublished photos of the Darl'mat. .This information will be published soon. The car is being repainted in the correct French blue color using nitro-cellulose paint. We also obtained the correct type 402B engine and the larger competition brakes that she had installed in her car. Watch for it in an upcoming Concours d'Elegance.

I'm the present owner of this Peugeot Darl'mat. I would like to find the photo, mentioned by R. Mawer, published in the book of "Pathé News". Any other info about this car is welcome!
At the present we are restoring it.

In the 1950`s I came across a Peugeot Darl`mat of this type on a bomb site used car lot in Handsworth, Birmingham.
I had never seen one of these cars before and it was love at first sight.
I cannot remember what the asking price was but it was beyond my pocket at the time.
Also for sale was a Morgan Plus 4 which, I was told, had a Kieft tuned engine and had belonged to Pauline and Lionel(?)Mayman well known Midland race and rally competitors.

The registration plate of this car was "EYU9".

Unfortunately the car was found in a far more sorry state than the picture above...

Some years ago the daughter of the late owner contacted me and asked if I could find a buyer for the remains of this Peugeot. I brokered it to a Dutch restorer.

I have a lot of documents and period pictures of this cars which prove it is indeed the Dorothy Patten car.

I have seen a very good photo of Dorothy Patten posing (somewhere in London,I think) by her Darl,Mat.I believe the Registration Number could be seen. Her name is given in the photo title. The present owner might like to find this photo. It was in a book of photos taken by "Pathe News".This was a film-making company,in England, who made short news films which were shown at cinemas, between the main films. This book was not published too long ago,so it should be possible to find a copy.BUT-if more than one book of Pathe photos has been published, you need the right one!

I believe it is the Dorothy Patten car which she raced pre-war and drove in early post-war events including the first Goodwood meeting in September 1948

I don't know what happend to this Darl'mat. But I might have a picture of it while racing at Brooklands.
I will post this picture aswell.

I think it is the same car because there must be very little RHD Darl'mats
The Darl'mats were built on a Peugeot 402 chassis and , as far as I know, these only came in LHD.

Peter Mullin owns a RHD Darl'mat
but his is a Cabriolet and not a roadster like the one on this picture.
