What to do with your costly 9 hp Darracq when a War is getting near? The French owner of this elegant 1902 tourer decided to dismantle his car and stow it in the attic of his home. In that time 1912-1913 a World War was not in your vocabulary, and even less in a dictionary, the owner must have thought, ooh this dark cloud will pass over and I'll bring the car down again in a week or two. What exactly happened after that is not known, but the owner either didn't return from war or just didn't bother to reassemble the car. Anyway the car came down the stairs only very recently after a nap of nearly ninety years... In the meantime the two cylinder engine probably by mishap was mixed up with a one cylinder, so the new owner needs to find a proper two cylinder, which according to dealer Jan Bruijn should not be a big problem; he will gladly assist in tracking down a good restorable specimen. More difficult it probably will be to conserve the first paint and to soften the first leather upholstery. There is one feature on this motorcar from which one can judge this must have been a high-end car. It was prepared by the coachbuilder for a winter holiday in the Alps. How we can see that? Just check the ski-hatch (click) between the two rear seats... ;-) (photos courtesy Galleria Style & Auto)
