Back to back: Seven or Singer?

Slowly but surely we seem to be getting back to our everyday lives with our everyday activities. Brightwells Auctioneers is at least organizing another sale on May 28th or are they? Well, they are but it won’t be a live auction. They state: “Amid these strange and difficult times, Brightwells are pleased to announce a new calendar of Classic Car and Motorcycle sales, using our extensive Timed Online auction facilities.”

They offer a lovely supercharged Lea Francis Hyper and an Armstrong Siddeley with guarantee paperwork signed by John Davenport Siddeley himself. But if you know us, you’ll know that we love to take a look at the starter’s end of the market, and with the duo seen here, Brightwells didn't forget about these either.

First of them is a 1931 Singer Junior Saloon which they describe as ‘budget pre-war motoring’. The green/black car offered for sale seems to be in fine fettle and ready to be enjoyed. The estimate of £4,250 to £6,250 would surely make it an excellent starter classic.

But for that kind of money, there’s another tempting little number: a least as honest looking Austin Seven: a Ruby of 1934, estimated at £5,000 to £6,500. This car certainly seems original and unmolested with bags of patina and what looks to be a tax disc dated ‘August 75’ on the windscreen. The interior shows the lovely handle to open the windscreen and what has to be the cord to lower the curtain for the rear screen. It will need some work (if only it was to get rid of those indicators on the roof…), but what a gem nevertheless. What would be your choice?
