Back to the future of the green car. (UPDATE; 1834/35 Stratingh !)

UPDATE by Tjitte de Jong (NL); Much, much earlier Dutch professor Stratingh invented / built and tested his electromagnetic car in the streets of Grongingen 1834-35 !!! See: Inventors.About.com

EARLIER: It's not a forest but a car that you are looking at: check zoom-in. Yesterday an international jury of 58 carjournalists selected the hybrid Toyota Prius as "Car of the Year" for the Dutch carmagazine Autovisie (autovisie.nl). Nothing new as you know, but it is new for this century. The same news came up more than a hundred years ago. First check the history timeline of Hybridcars.com. Then proceed to 'Toyota's Pressroom'. Then a French electric cars history page and a last check of Electriccars.com. The first hybrid car about which we found info is a 1899 General Electic. A Krieger car very similar to yesterday's feature came only slightly later. Well, that should be enough for a late night or early morning conversation.
