Barnfinds forever! (update: Amilcar 'Cheap Garden Shed special')

Robin Bachelor was kind enough to illustrate yesterday's support with photos of a superb find. At least this looks to be a very original Amilcar CGSs. As we don't know anything about the car we hope you lot will fiil us in. And yes, don't despair, NO ban on proeject cars and branfound remains. The Newe Dutch rule was only an invention of our sick Dutch mind. We can only thank you for your massive support! Now our next problem is, what to think up for next year April 1...

Robin

My name is James Davies. I was a good friend of Paul Langton and was present when we bought and collected the car from David. It was an unfortunate fact I was working away when another cash crunch hit and Paul sold the car. Paul has since unfortunatel died. Fantastic to hear about it, please do keep up the good work.

Best

James

The rear axle appears to be a narrowed late model Model T Ford rear axle , with the Amilcar brakes , wheel hubs , brake drums , etc. adapted to fit .

I am the proud/apprehensive owner of this fine piece of automotive history, and yes, it is a genuine C.G.S.s.(what`s left of it!) At some point in it`s chequered history it had the engine and box replaced with those from a Wyllis Geep (I don`t know what make the rear axle is) There`s an awful lot of re-construction work to be done (a chassis rail snapped while trailering it home!)But a pauper such as myself has to start at the cheap end of the market! I intend to retain it`s "special" status, rather than returning it to original spec. (I have a 6c Alfa 1500 twin cam engine to shoe-horn into it) As I will be building on quite a tight budget, I decided that C.G.S.s stands for "Cheap Garden Shed special!

This is no April fool, unless you buy the wreck.
I have known this item for over 15 years and am amazed it has not been snapped up.

Many of us dream of "Barn Discoveries" like artists dream of finding a lost Rembrandt or horologists dream of spotting an unknown "Tompion" in a junk shop. The enormous response illustrates our passion - and the clever choice of April 1st tradition. Well done !
Robin.
