Arnoud van der Sman reacted on the recent Aries Quiz: "In the early nineties I worked with a French car museum Le Centre d'Automobile Ancienne de Nogent l'Artaud. There I saw a few times a white Aries (owned by a Mr. Rousseau). The owner of the museum Dr. Jeanson, told me this was a member of THE Rousseau family ( no idea what the importance of that name/family is/was). I have met him onse or twice, possibly during meetings of the Club Teuf-Teuf. So far I have never seen a photo of this specific Aries. However..... only three weeks ago
Arnoud stumbled on this barnfresh Aries somewhere in the heart of France. Can you give an exact ID of this car. Here is another close up of the gearbox . We understand the car , er... the project is for sale at a reasonable price. We will send your e-mail to Arnoud when you're interested to acquire the project. Contact Us
UPDATE II by David Green:"An interesting find! The gearbox is clearly on a sub-chassis with the hub of a transmission brake behind the gearbox. The gearbox itself has 4 cast lugs that sit on the sub-frame. There is an interesting tap-like adjuster on the left side of the chassis. The flywheel looks to be remarkably deep, with the starter motor on the left side of the transmission. The engine looks to be big and rather dull. It appears to be 4 cylinder, and my guess is about 3 litres. The car has features that are prewar (RHS gear shift, sub-frame) but the wheels, front-wheel brakes, starter motor all suggest post-war. My guess? About 1922, probably the 15CV 3 litre, CC4."
UPDATE I: the Aries is from 1918/19 with 'moteur laterale', special brakes and twin ignition. Rutger Booy ads: “Mr. Rousseau, head of engineering at Simca in the 1950's-60's. He may have been related to the founder of Aries, Baron Petiet.”
Merci
