Today we celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Celebrating Thanksgiving we all do in our own way. Do you go for the traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, bread stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie? Or do you have other plans? Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a good day and be blessed with all the wonderful people around you. Be grateful for the little things in life and of course do not forget all the wonderful (pre-war) cars we can admire!
Look at this 1924 Vauxhall 30/98hp OE Velox Tourer. We are definitely thankful and very delighted that we can admire pre-war cars like this. The best thing is. You cannot only admire this tourer! You can hear it, smell it, feel it, drive it and buy it at the Bonhams Bonstreet Sale on the 1st of December 2018!
The matching number OE offered here is one of the 312 produced Vauxhall OE numbered cars. This particular model was ordered new by Hari Singh, last ruling Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. A progressive ruler at the time. The Maharajah wanted his 30/98 to be completely symmetrical; why is not known. This custom made performance car was equipped with a non-functioning handbrake on the passenger's side and a door on the driver's side. Besides this, the Vauxhall also has a split windscreen and two 'ship's ventilators' on the scuttle as requested by the Maharaja.
In 1947 this sports car was acquired by Lt Colonel R Byrne of Peshawar, back then registered as 'KAA 3685'. The car changed hands once more before it was passed to American Samuel E Woods, in 1954. He shipped the car from Karachi to Boston and all relevant shipping paperwork which is part of the extensively documented history that is on file comes with the car.
In the US amongst various others, EL 1063 was owned by Edgar L Roy of West Roxbury, Boston, President of the Vintage Sports Car Club of America. Under his supervision, the car was restored. After the restoration, the car was used regularly and exhibited at various car shows. Also, the subsequent owners used the car for many (VSCC) events including Prescott and Shelsley Walsh. In 2005 the car went to a 30/98 specialist Templeton Engineering and Vintage Motor Sport for a full engine rebuild.
The unique Vauxhall offered here is estimated between £330,000 and £390,000. Would you like to know more about this well documented and ready to use pre-war car? Click here.
