Another East Indies Mystery (Upd. 1931 Buick Series 90 ? )

Henk Pos sends us this family photo shot in the former Fort de Kock, now Bukittinggi, in West Sumatra, the Minangkabau area. It came to him from a niece. Her father is to be seen here on the right of the chauffeur of the big 7 seat Tourer. Henk presumes the car is a Bentley. However the hubcap design and overall view points more into a US made direction: 1929-1930 Lasalle, Chrysler-rish ?

This definitely a big Buick on the 132" wheelbase but I am not sure if we can tell from this angle whether it is a 1930 Series 60 or a 1931 Series 90. About the only difference was an 8 on the radiator cap.

Are you sure he is on the right of the chauffeur ?

editor: That depends on how you look at it. In the car no, but to the observer, yes.

The hubcaps look very much like cadillac from about 1929 or 30. It is a big one so perhaps a V16.

This is most certainly a Buick. Probably pre 1929 with a 6 cylinder engine. If you enlarge the hubcap on the stepney, you can make out the letter "B" facing upwards. In India a few examples of such 7 seaters do exist. And this car is right hand drive.

The folding windshield gives it away. It is a 1930 LaSalle Fleetlands Phaeton. The body was made for LaSalle by Fleetwood.

Definately an early 1930s Buick Seven Passenger Touring Phaeton. Probably a 90 Series 1931-32

It's a 1931 Buick Series 90, 7 passenger phaeton, a very rare car, only 392 were made, very few are known to exist today.

1931 Buick 90 Series is a fine car that will run circles around most others.
