Brave Ladies and Damp Moustaches

Enough has already been written about the atrocious weather of last Sundays London to Brighton Run. And indeed, wet it was! But we shouldn't forget that at the Concours in Regent Street conditions were dry and from time to time even the sun came out. But no matter what kind of weather, it didn't stop the entrants to come suitably attired. Ladies were well dressed and many men sporting great looking large moustaches. And to use another cliché, but oh sooo true: "It's been great fun!"

Indeed it was wet. I'd like to add that us Entrants owe a huge Thank You to the Marshalls and other helpers. Without them the event couldn't work. I never hear any complaints and they were all cheery in Hyde Park waving the cars off even though they had the worst of the weather. And then there were smiles from all at Crawley and on 'The Hills'. Cheers ladies and Gents See you next year.

Spare a thought for my old chum Tam Large who failed to reach Brighton on his eighth attampt in his tiny but highly original 1900 Clement two seater. As on all previous attempts the car left the start full of energy and hope but this time fuel starvation rather than a mechanical breakdown frustrated their bold attempt to make to Madeira Drive for the first time. Maybe 2013 will prove lucky for Tam! Martin Shelley

Well, lste in life I've got interested in photography, but those brilliant long- exposure shots in the saturated London streets would be well beyond me. I am struck by the tiny 'tread' of the tyres on those spindly wheels: in olden days the tyres would have been even worse, having no real 'tread' a all. With little in the way of brakes, I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to drive a veteran in those conditions, trying to avoid the dreaded 'side slip'!

Did the "Speed Camera" which we can see in the picture register any RED flags ? ?
