On Thursday August 12th RM Auctions will kick start its annual Sports & Classics of Monterey sale with a special evening auction devoted to “the company that put the world on wheels” – Ford! There will be some 57 Fords, Mercurys and Lincolns, spanning from the company’s earliest days of production through to a host of modern cars. Among the oldest Fords on offer are a 1903 Model A, a 1906 Model N and a 1907 Model K, but there’s also a 1909 Model T that we found quite interesting because of its unusual touring body. This Model T was built in Pontiac, Michigan with a body constructed of sheet aluminum panels over a hardwood frame. It was purchased from the Bayliss Motor Company in May 1909 for a Miss Kate Helm known as “Lincoln’s Rebel Niece”. The T was paid for by check which is framed under glass and is still with the car. She paid the princely sum of $985 for the Model T; we only wonder what you will have to write on your check…
