Christmas Card Veteran Car Run

On behalf of everyone involved with organising the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, I would like to offer you our best wishes for a Happy Christmas and New Year.

The Run could not take place without the tremendous support we receive from our partner organisations. Our lead sponsor, Bonhams, has been with us for over 20 years as sponsors and for five years as the headline sponsors.  Throughout their time they have provided friendship, participation and encouragement, as well as the essential financial support that the Run requires.  This will be Bonhams last year as the Run’s headline sponsor, although we look forward to seeing them on the Run as participants and at their veteran car auction on the Friday before the Run.  I would like to thank them on all our behalves for supporting the Run with style and grace and wish them well for the future.

The good news is that work is already well underway to ensure a well-supported 2020 Run and I hope to see as many of you as possible driving, as passengers, supporting or marshalling at the world’s most prestigious veteran car event.

I look forward to seeing you all in 2020.

Miles Wade CBE
Chairman of the Veteran Car Run Steering Group

Why on earth anyone would pay to drive a car from London to Brighton totally eludes me. Is a A23 a toll road?

I never realised that you have to pay a handsome fee to participate in the London to Brighton run, but I looked it up: this year's fees ranged from GBP 148 to GBP 518, depending on the type and year of the car. I leave it to the individual reader of this comment to determine if that is "a large sum".

In my opinion, it is indeed quite a lot of money to participate in an one-day event (without any luxurious service) but organizing something like this, would be rather expensive. To reserve Hyde Park and Madeira Drive won't be cheap and this is part of the experience.
Clearly most people agree with me as there are a lot of entries every year. Any other commercial event cost about 1000 euros a day. Except for the MIlle Miglia, which is absolutely absurd.
And that worries me, that at one point the organizer of the LB wants more exclusivity and the prices will raise to a very high level.

Why do you need to reserve Hyde Park and Madeira Drive? Neither location is of any historic significance. The RAC used only to charge a small administration fee of about £20GBP. What has changed?

What a pompous letter. Of course Mr Wade seems to forget that there would be no Run if it wasn't for the Entrants stumping up a large sum to take part.
