The 5cv Cloverleaf Mystery

Angelo van de Rijt recently found this special bodied 1923 Citroen 5cv. writes: "We would love to find some info about this special bodied Citroën 5cv 'cloverleaf'. It's been in storage for many decades. The widow fo the former owner couldn't tell us a lot about the history. All we know is what we can see, the workmanship is far above avarage and has very nice detailign . Also the car seems like never restored before, so we will refrain from undetaking any form of restoration and limit ourselves to a careful recommissioning. We just would love to hear more about the possible coachbuilder who was involved."

Interesting and typical for the later twenties. Normally the 5HP had flat mudguards, which soon after the appearing of the 5HP became oldfashioned. Round mudguards like on this car are often seen.
The body is interesting and professionally built. Normal 5HP cars had only one door, while on the drivers side there was the sparewheel. The standard body has sidewindows which were pulled by a leather strap. This one has winders.
The most obvious change on the body is the rear section, where the pointed ducktail was changed against a more useful and fashionable large rear offering also space for the sparewheel.
The hood seems to be standard, apart from the landau-bars.
The bonnet is very special, it has very special aeration openings and on its rear side it is quite a bit longer than the original. The fuel filler cap in front of the windscreen disappeared below it.
Regarding the interior: the brown leather could be original, if this is the case, the cars original paint was most probably burgundy red. The wood applications are a larger than the original, but not as refined. On the door trim there are the pockets missing.
I remember having seen some long time ago a picture of a 5HP with two doors, made in Spain.
