Civil war in Angoulême

Robert Vierbergen reports that France's best vintage car event is under threat. After the closing of Montlhéry earlier this year, the second important venue is in danger. The September historic street race on the Circuit des Remparts (click) that is attracting massive crowds of vintage and classic car fans, possibly will see it's last year: "The new departemental civil-servant Mr. Boulanger in the departement of the Charente has decided, that the Remparts trial in Angouleme must keep up with the speedlimit in cities. So 50 km per hour. The event that has run for ages without accidents, was well organised and attracted thousands of people from all over the world. Where one could admire great cars from Edwardians to D-types and rare Bugattis to Astons, racing through the center of the medieval town. The organisers are defending their position and told the press that they would go on anyway. After the French "NO" to Europe, now we can look forward to a revolution against impopular decisions."
For those of you who never been to the street circuit of Angouleme, take a look at the Nostalgia Forum (AtlasF1.com). Or better go this year, which is possibly the last under unchanged rules.
