Comes with a song (UPDATE: Restored for free!)

Lancia’s Astura is a quite special automobile fitted with a V8 engine. Even more special were the six Astura’s bodied by Pininfarina. But this one is kinda extra special as one of its former owners was the worlds best (we think) guitarist Eric Clapton. He drove this 1936 Astura in 1975 and proclaimed it to be the most fun he had ever had "off stage and out of bed". At that time Clapton had a relation with famous photographer Pattie Boyd, then the wife of Beatle George Harrison. She took some photographs of Eric while he was checking out the Lancia somewhere in Surrey (pattieboyd.com). Truly ‘a car with a song’ this Lancia will cross the Auction block on April 17 during The Branson Auction. Check out lot 561!

I think this was a show car with a power-operated hood and after a massive restoration showed the seat backs with pleated leather in two colours.
Ronald Barker recognised it in a very sorry state when it was bought by Michael Scott. I supplied him with an engine and when it was mobile - just- it was driven to Italy where Pininfarina had offered to restore the bodywork - if my memory serves me well- for free! This took I think about 18 months and then it was driven back to England.
I feel sure that both of the above gentlemen will have much additional information.
Probably the Auction House will know all about it anyway.
Douglas Crowther.
