Daimler Discovery

I just bought this Daimler chassis from a collector in Spain, he had bought it twenty years earlier in Palma Majorca where it had lain abandoned for many years.

The story is that the car was the property of the ex King of Spain Alphonso XIII and was kept at the royal palace for use during his summer visits. The Spanish royal family have a history of Daimler cars going right back to the early days.

The chassis number is 44438 can anyone add any more information.

Best wishes.

Only two Daimler were acquired by the royal house during the mandate of Alfonso XIII.
In 1910, the real house buys according to its inventory, a Daimler 48HP limousine, chassis 4,807.
In 1920, he buys his second and last Daimler a 30HP, of which we have no reference to his chassis number, but which we consider is a house service car. This year, a Hispano Suiza 32HP chassis 10,003 was registered in inventory, which will be the real representation car.

Dear Jon, your chassis Daimler 15 is also the chassis number 44.438 is one of the last manufactured models 15 in the Daimler Factory at the end of year 1937. It should have a 2.166cc engine. In his time, he belonged to the smallest of the type series and also the cheapest. The story of his history from the Spanish seller is a very nice fantasy - a lovely fairy tale. Jirka Schwarz

I don't think this can be a car King Alphonso kept at his royal palaces in Spain. Alphonso XIII fled Spain in 1931, after the Spanish republic was proclaimed. This Daimler chassis is of the later cross-braced type, not the earlier ladder frame. Given that the X-braced chassis type construction progressively replaced the ladder type in the mid 1930s, when the King had fled Spain, the car cannot have been used by Alphonso at a royal residence in Spain.
