Deemster: The Little Car of Lion Heart

Straight from the book of little known makes comes this Deemster that will be auctioned tomorrow at Bonhams in Harrogate, UK. Yet the Deemster was in production from 1914 until 1924, although before World War I it was made in very small numbers. Production restarted in 1920, but despite it being a smart looking automobile, in the end the Deemster couldn't compete against its rival the Morris Bullnose. This true restorers delight has been of the road since 1962 and although fairly complete will prove a real challenge for a brave man. One thing puzzles us... Bonhams mentions that this 1923 'Royal' model was nicknamed 'The little car of lion heart', but why is a mystery to us. Perhaps you can enlighten us?

I had never heard of one before and was intrigued. He also said he believes it's the last one left.

I don't know the origin of the "lion heart" nickname but I have seen one Deemster. It was at a club event in Wangaratta Australia in 1987. It is still in the region today. I will post a photo in "Share Photos".
