By Fred O’Wahrr: “The other day I saw on your site the Cugnot steam car and this reminded me of my motorcycle, a 1938 DKW SB 500. D.K.W. of course is a German abbreviation meaning ‘Dampf Kraft Wagen (steam-powered car), but sometimes it has the meaning of Das Kleine Wunder (small wonder) or even better Des Knaben Wunsch (little boy’s wish). But if it refused to start you could also call it ‘Dat Kreng Weigert’ (it never starts!). Anyway, the name DKW originated when in 1916 engineers Rasmussen and Mathiessen experimented with a steam car. Probably it came to nothing and in 1919 they started to manufacture motorcycles. My question is: has anybody ever seen a sketch, photo or painting of this original DKW steam-car… I’d love to see one.”
