Docteur Mendailles and his mysterious car

This picture was recently found by Jean-Luc Bach who lives near Saint Pantaleon, a small village near Cahors in the South of France. It was sent in by his friend Bruno Estibals who asked for our help as he has some difficulty identifying this beauty.

Docteur Mendailles visited La Boissière which must have been around 1910. We know this doctor in medicine worked near Cahors at the beginning of 1900. He was the only doctor in the surroundings of Montcuq. We assume the lady and the two children in the back of the car are his relatives.

That is all we know about the picture and the people we see. Dear very knowledgeable PreWarCar.com friends, who can tell us more about the car we see here? It looks like there is something mounted in front of the radiator. Can anyone tell us more about that?

Words by the editor. Photograph sent in by Bruno Estibals.

Not a real mystery, but a 1906 Peugeot double phaeton. The registration number 263-TT on the radiator dates from september 1906, so the car is probably a model 81 or 82.

I'm not very familiar with French prewar cars, but the radiator housing is typical for Peugeots from 1903 until 1906, in my opinion (for reference I've attached a photo from my collection showing a Peugeot from c.1904). I'd put my money on the Type 77 or 78 from 1905/06. But surely, there are more knowledgeable readers around who will be able to provide a definite answer.
