'Between 1960 and 1964 I lived as a young lad in Egypt, in Maadi, a village situated about 15 kilometres south of Cairo which consisted at the time almost exclusively of villas. My brother is going to retrace our history this month by visiting for the first time in forty years and this has refuelled my interest in automobile history in Egypt. I know that several Isotta-Fraschinis as well as Bugattis, etc. were delivered to Egyptian royalty, nobility and gentry. When we travelled throughout Egypt in the 1960s it was not uncommon to find A and T Fords and American iron of the 1930s, still driving around as taxis in Luxor and other places along the Nile. The oldest photo I could find on Internet is of this Dion Bouton during a visit to the pyramids at Gizeh. The man at the wheel is the son of the famous English touring agent, Thomas Cook. Who has got more interesting photos of automobile history in Egypt? (text Hans Veenenbos; photo courtesy .....Samir Raafat, webmaster of Motoring history of Egypt)
