Even More mystery about the DOHC Mystery!

Jiri Langer provides us with 'new' old photos of the DOHC mystery engine presented last Tuesday. Despite all 'marine' characteristics (possibly of later date) the engine once was mounted in a full racing car with sophisticated tubular chassis. Check also the B&W thumbnail with transverse front spring. Possibly you recognise the car? Jiri adds that the sparkplug position (leaning 'backwards') may be a give away. The plot thickens!

Do we know for certain that the photo in the car is the same engine and not just a different example. The inlet manifold forthe the downdraught carbs looks very professionally made yet the car has twin Solex (?) which could never fit onto it.Also surely there is some writing central on the LH cam cover (in the car photo). It can't be read in the published picture but looks to have an A in the middle and be large enough to read maybe directly from the original?

The transverse leaf spring and the rack & pinion steering and the tubular chassis have a look of B.M.W. about them, but that's as far as I can go!
