Fading memories from the Pink Lakes ( UPDATE: Oldsmobile & Dodge)

"The 'Pink Lakes' are situated in north west Victoria, Australia, and were the scene of salt harvesting for many years. The area is hot and dusty and working with the salt must have been a daunting task. A friend of mine married the daughter of the man who had the contract to cart the salt to the main railway line. They lived in the area for many years. Sadly all have passed on however these two photographs have come to light. One is of Bert Wigg, the contractor, and his roadster (click) and the other a more substanial car together with the family. Can anybody identify the (two Mystery) cars as we would like to round out the history of this now unused area?" Contact us (photos sent by Bruce Duncan)
a flood of UPDATES came in from Kit Foster, Mark Dawber, Alan Brosnahan, Dick Trenk, Reg Harris and John Kent. Kit writes: "The roadster is a 1925 Dodge, the sedan a 1937 Oldsmobile Six. Dick ads the Oldmobile is a serire 'F'. The 8 cyl models had grille bars set more closely together. For 1938 models the headlamps went atop the front fenders."Mark adds on the Dodge:"no later than 1924 because it is still on the 24 inch tyres. 1925 Dodges are on 20s." Reg adds on the Dodge: "Note no front brakes, which were introduced on Dodge in 1928."
