The French Nivex petrol gauge as seen in Bugatti, Amilcar, Delage, etc. is based on checking differences in airpressure. In the view of your editor it is a semi intelligent but also rather useless gauge that in most instances is giving poor performance and poor reading. It's just too complex for the simple act for which it is designed. But running the short procedure is fun and adds to the vintage atmosphere... Mounted in the car the Nivex set consists of a dash mounted handpump, a nice pressure meter reading for a short time the remaining liters in the tank and finally a complex membrane which is in control of everything. This small brass fitting is missing or irrepairably maltreated on many cars. A few perfectionists set their minds and hands on reproducing the little brassterd and now proudly show the result (click). A small series of the Nivex regulator unit is being planned.
