Girls have more fun in Austin Sevens

You know we are big advocates of youngsters driving PreWarCars. Trouble is these cars are so bloody expensive, aren’t they? Well, perhaps not, as there is one steady factor in the lower price echelons of pre-war motoring since the invention of the affordable car anyway: the Austin Seven. Sevens have always been good fun, if not for their simplicity and multi-employability, then for its racing possibilities and availability. The girls seen here knew it back then. You know it, don’t you? If not, you’ll find out by reading on.

For that reason, youngsters who are attracted to PreWars, might find the upcoming sale of Richard Edmonds interesting. The auctioneer offers a nice selection of starter classics for prices that may still be affordable for the young enthusiast. What looks to be a very clean 1938 Ruby with one owner since 1971 and a lovely registration for any father and / or son is estimated at a very modest 5- to 6,000 GBP. A 1934 saloon in a splendid shade of green, ‘matured patina’ ánd with matching Seven based shoebox caravan is estimated at 8- to 10,000 GBP. We'd like that ourselves.

Sportiest of the lot is a 1934 Special built in the 1980s in MG J2 style by Beaufort restorations. Looking just splendid and ready to go at any vintage event with an estimate of 15- to 18,000 GBP. Not original enough? Then how about a 1924 Chummy in unrestored (!) – and also ready to go – condition? It would be the perfect car to recreate our main picture with five Friday Ladies. Now, for a Seven this may become an expensive example with an estimate of 18- to 22,000 GBP, but, hey, think of any other 95 year old car in a condition like this and you can only draw one conclusion: the Austin Seven still is the most fun car you’ll ever have for your bucks!
